Two people with the same circumstances; one succeeds and the other fails. Two folks in the same city promoting the same product; one excels, while the other doesn’t make a dime. It’s not about “where” you are, but “who” you are. Life plays out by how we interpret it to ourselves. Listen to your thoughts some time, and even write them down. You may be in for a surprise.

If you must create a self fulfilling prophecy, make it a good one. We tell ourselves stories about our past, present, and future, and we tend to believe those stories. What we believe to be true is our choice, and we can change the way we interpret our circumstances and opportunities.

This time of year is an opportunity to assess our strengths and weaknesses and regroup. It is NEVER too late to succeed or improve. One’s attitudes and perceptions lead the way. Have high standards, insist on value, and only work with the best people. Surround yourself with positives, and keep a life enhancing perspective. Perceive the truth that we are surrounded by opportunity and abundance, and keep that as your perspective.

Ask “How can we make this work?”, and use your expectations and beliefs to create your future the way you desire it to be. 2009 will be the best year ever because of all of the challenges out there right now. Every challenge crys out for a solution. Put together your business strategies and marketing promotions with this in mind. “How can I best be of service?”

When starting with a small advertising budget for your home business, it’s good to be aware of some of the free ad sources available. Here’s a few ideas that may be of help. Whether advertising online or offline, one source that is valuable is a press release which is distributed to the media. Always make your press releases newsworthy and not sounding like an ad. Article Directories are another free source of advertising to explore. Submit free articles to these sites with your bio and link in the resource section so that readers can find your web page. Two rather well known sites for article submission are www.EzineArticles.com and www.GoArticles.com

Social networking or Web 2.0 is another great way to get exposure for your business without cost, and also brand yourself and your products. For forums and groups put your link in your signature file. Use social marketing to develop relationships, and not to directly sell your products. Once you provide valuable insights and information, you will develop the trust to convert some of these folks into customers.

One more method to obtain free traffic is to develop and distribute a viral free prodcut. A short report or email series with your hyperlinks included will bring many interested visitors as long as what you provide has value. Use these techniques to create a reputation as an expert in your specifc market. You will then have a good supply of quality traffic and leads for your home business.

Whether you develop your own product or market as an affiate, it’s important to create a strong foundation. Once you have done your market research, and determined that you have a viable market niche, it’s time to build some infrastructure for your business.

First get a domain name registered that is keyword relevant to what you will be marketing. Then set up an autoresponder, and payment system such as PayPal or Authorize.net. Once that is in place you may want to add to your customer service by creating a ticket system through a provider such as Kayako. This will add tremendously to your credibility. Also you want a search optimized blog for your content, so you have a place to send traffic.

Next set up a vehicle to obtain leads. You can create an opt-in form on your blog, and then publish your first article on your blog. This will get the process started. You may also want to contact potential JV partners, and buy some advertising prior to placing your product on your site. There are also free promotional techniques such as Web 2.0 strategies.

Once you have completed your product or have a viable affiliate product to promote, place it on your site. Once your advertising produces a positive return on investment (ROI), buy more advertising anc contact more potential partners. Use these same home business marketing strategies to repeat the process.

Never mind all the dire reports about the economy. In fact, stop watching the news and concentrate all your efforts on building your business. Since so many people are panicking right now, this is your opportunity to jump in and increase the value you offer to your clients and customers. This is not the time to cut corners and short change people.

Offer double the value without increasing price by training your people to give better service. Make your customer feel great, and improve on the mistakes of other business owners. Just last week I went to a new restaurant for the first time, and as soon as we entered we were cheerfully greeted, and the service continued to get better throughout the meal. What a pleasant experience, and I can’t wait to return.

Also be flexible and look for solutions. Attract people for their people skills, and let your CPA handle the numbers. Increase loyalty by giving something of value to your customers. This doen’t have to cost you, but just be of use to your customer. Also reinvest some of your profits in your customers. A little attention to detail will go a long way in increasing the profitability of your home business.

No matter the economic climate, it is you who controls your destiny. There is no better time to start than now. Make a difference in others’ lives, and things will automatically fall into place. When we love what we do, and express that love toward others, we are assured success. Never accept failures. Make a difference.

Since you are in control, eliminate negativity in your life. Stop watching all the horror stories on the news, and wasting time in unproductive activities. Surround yourself with positive folks and input, and BE a valuable example for others to follow. See opportunity wherever you go. Especially in this economic climate, there are numerous avenues to succeed by helping others. Change the world one person at a time, and that first person is you. Change your attitude, and spread that enlightenment to others.

Also education is priceless. Be selective in your mentors and sources, but continue to learn and apply your new knowledge. You will then soon becom the “go to” person. Continue to offer value to others, and your home business will flourish regardless of the economic climate.

Whether you create a product or acquire the rights to someone else’s product, it’s important to understand the process of online selling so that you maximize your efforts. First and foremost is market research. Make sure there is a market for your product before spending all the time, money and energy acquiring or developing something that nobody wants. Take as much time as you need in this area, unti you find that market niche that wants what you have to offer.

So the basic online process is very simple, but requires each step to be completed thoroughly. So to break down the formula 1) do some market research 2) then test the market to see if your product is wanted 3) create a lead generator like a capture page, and offer something of value for free 4) Based on positive results from your testing then go on and create your product or obtain rights to a product 5) spend time promoting your product.

For your home business success treat each step carefully, and don’t proceed until you are actually ready for the next step. Once you find a viable market niche for your product no matter how long it takes, the rest of the process can go rather quickly whether you do it all yourself or outsource some of it. You will be totally motivated once you discover a profitable area in which to market. So use this as a foundation for all of your home business marketing strategies. Once your foundation is built, it’s just a matter of filling in the blanks.

One thing we forget when starting our home business, and setting up our home office is that it takes time and discipline to get the momentum going.
